Aim is to tackle car crime but increased coverage would also reduce potential for displacement. Area also benefits from commitment to wider regeneration and a range of crime reduction measures. |

The target area comprises 3,427 households, 2,384 recognised car parking spaces and 480 commercial premises. The area is densely populated and is an area of high unemployment. Ashton Pioneer Homes CCTV Bid, Ashton-Under-Lyne This bid is for 64 cameras covering 919 households on two 1960's built estates. Both have a combination of high rise and low rise dwellings. The landlord currently employs 7 security staff and while they have been successful in reducing crime it is thought that CCTV would increase their effectiveness further. Residents have expressed support for the proposal which would support a wide ranging programme of physical and environmental improvements to the estates. Main crime problems are vehicle crime, criminal damage and burglary. It is thought that the target area might be suffering from crime that has been displaced from the nearby town centre which is covered by CCTV. £192,000 awarded (£136,000 from other sources). |
