 Cannock Chase DC: Benion Road Estate.

£322,376 (£800 other funding). Coverage of 500 households. The Police and Council have worked closely together in response to rising crime in the area. Main crime problems are drug/solvent abuse, violent crime, criminal damage and theft. Records show that crime in the area is rising. Residents association support proposal for CCTV. In addition to physical improvements there are a range of other crime reduction measures proposed

 Dudley MBC: Stafford Street Car Park Scheme.

£46,342 (£15,000 other funding). Bid would be used to support application for Secured Car Park Status. Car crime identified as a major problem and it is anticipated that this scheme would result in a 90% reduction.

 Dudley MBC: Sedgley Town Centre.

£25,540 (£23,000 other funding). Coverage also includes car parks, community facilities and small part of residential area. Main crimes are vehicle crime, burglary and assault along with high levels of disorder. Local businesses to contribute 50% of other funding.

 Tamworth BC: Railway Station Car Park, Tamworth.

£36,000 (£273,000 other funding). Proposal will support bid for Secured Car Park Status. Area is beyond coverage of existing systems and is targeted by criminals. Crime problems include car crime, fear of crime and criminal damage. Area will be redesigned giving better visibility with improved lighting. Area is also part of the Integrated Transport Plan which aims to promote use of public transport.

 Worcester CC: Safer Worcester.

£643,832 (£360,000 other funding). Coverage of car parks will aid progress towards Secured Car Park Status. The proposal will ensure that whole of commercial area of city centre is covered together with routes into it identified as being of concern in a Women's Safety Survey. High levels of car crime, shoplifting and assault with reasonable levels of reduction anticipated.

 Willenhall, Walsall

This bid is for 17 cameras to cover hot spots in residential (450 dwellings predominantly council owned), business park and retail areas. The scheme will also compliment other projects including refurbishment of the pedestrianised area, upgrading of street lighting, landscape and security improvements. There are currently very high levels of vehicle crime, burglary, arson/criminal damage and violence. There is strong local support for the introduction of CCTV and the bid has been developed in close consultation with residents and traders. £262,200 awarded.

 

 Central Avenue, Birmingham

Provision of 14 cameras to monitor the entrances and surrounds of three tower blocks which are the focus of crime in the area. The main problems are burglary and violence which are drug related. There are proposals to improve the lighting and landscape the area which will complement the introduction of CCTV. There is also support for the scheme from the local community. £121,417 awarded (£60,000 from other sources).

 

 Coventry City Centre - Car Parks Project

This bid is for 18 cameras to extend coverage to all 19 of the city centre car parks. It will also support applications for Secured Car Park Status for 5 car parks which have yet to achieve that standard. It is expected that this scheme will have a significant impact on vehicle crime levels. £153,953 awarded (£33,000 from other sources).

 

 Redditch Town Centre and Car Parks

Funding is sought for 14 cameras to cover the town centre, car parks, bus station and a residential area. Main problems are vehicle and violent crime. It is anticipated that this scheme will have a major impact on these offences. The bid will support applications for Secured Car Park Status for all existing and developing surface car parks in the target area. £310,000 awarded (£48,000 from other sources).

 

 Highfields CCTV, Halesowen

This bid is for 14 cameras covering 248 households in council ownership. 6 cameras will monitor the estate and 8 cameras will view entrances to and communal areas within two tower blocks. The estate has benefited from previous investment but units are still difficult to let due to fear of crime, intimidation and drug dealing on the estate. The aim of this bid is to transfer the tenant's fear of crime into a fear of detection by those who are dealing in drugs. The bid is supported by the Tenants Association. £54,550 awarded (£89,078 other funding).
