E-nsecure Awards

On 13th September 1999, the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair made an E-Commerce speech in Cambridge, and re-iterated his vision to "make Britain the best place for e-commerce anywhere in the world"

The prefix "e-" seems to have been applied to many new internet based ventures in the hope of of generating enough interest in the stock market to create "e-millionaires". Unfortunately the due diligence that professional advisors and regulatory authorities should be applying to protect the public from "e-crooks" or "e-ncompetants" is sadly lacking in some cases.

A design award winning multimedia website is no assurance that the creators are competent to advise on "e-commerce" . If your web site ignores basic computer security, then not only are you putting your own business at risk, but you are also damaging the United Kingdom's reputation for excellence in Information Technology.

The E-nsecure Awards are an opportunity to "name & shame" those companies and institutions who really should know better. Hopefully the publicity and "e-gnominy" of being awarded an "e-gnoble" E-nsecure Award will prompt the necessary changes in management and security procedures. Planning is underway to present these awards at a forthcoming conference.
