AM/SSB CB rigs are illegal to possess in the UK, the DTI seize them when they are openly sold at radio rally's but otherwise do nothing unless one of you neighbours pays the 35 quid fee to have a complaint of TV interference investigated.
Plenty going for silly prices on ebay.

Those old cybernet boarded multimodes were usable rigs after fitting a bleedover crystal to cure the image reception on AM/FM. SSB was allways a bit warbly. They were not exactly sensitive receivers paticularly when the front end was returned to cover more bands but the noise level is usually so high when the skips running on 27 megs that it dosn't matter.

I love the smell of the old paperboard PCB and the acid resin in those rigs.
